South Georgia women are excited about the changing
political landscape and anxious to take political matters into their own hands.
After a year and a half of meeting, discussing, and workshopping to gain a
better understanding of the way politics in Georgia work, these women are ready
to jump in. According to Valdosta Women’s Voices President linda pysher
jurczak, the group’s purpose is to bring our voices to the state Capitol and
beyond, and what better way to do this than to support candidates who share our

It is for these reasons that VWV is endorsing Democrats
Michelle Nunn for United States Senate and Rita Robinzine for state school superintendent.

Michelle Nunn is the oldest child of former Georgia Senator
Sam Nunn. Michelle Nunn returned to Georgia in 1989 and after 25 years of running
the non-profit Hands On Atlanta, she decided to follow in her father’s
political footsteps. Her experience of co-founding and running a non-profit
seems to make her uniquely qualified for Washington today. Nunn holds degrees from the University of
Virginia and Harvard University.

Rita Robinzine, a native Atlantan and graduate of both
Spelman and the American Intercontinental University, is a 24-year educator in DeKalb County who
believes Georgia can and should do better than a one-size-fits-all education
for middle school and high school students.

According to an
opinion piece on, Robinzine believes the emphasis should be taken off
“teacher performance as education reform and focus on helping all children of
Georgia to get a good public school education.”

The mission of VWV is “to bring women together in the Valdosta/Lowndes County area who value our
status as equal citizens and who recognize our responsibility to participate in
the political process, to inform the community about legislative proposals that
impact women and their families, and to support candidates who believe in full
equality for women in all areas of our lives.”
